The Victim Speaks - The Media
Response to Media Statements - August 17, 2010

Sometimes media statements can be very misleading. Below are examples from my rape case of media error and misleads.  Note media rarely retracks misleading and error statements. As a survivor if your case is going to trial and is worthy of media attention know  the media will interpret the facts to benefit their purpose.

The local media statements are not quoted on this page because there were too many articles in the four days of coverage of the trial. The misleading and error statements are summed up below.

To the right is the full Press Statement the Potter's House released on their website July 14, 2010. You can also go to the Potters House website, click Press.

Media Statement -  Nathaniel Tumbwe was Carolyn Hudson's boyfriend. Nathaniel Tumbwe and Carolyn Hudson were engaged.

Truth - Tumbwe was not and has never been Carolyn Hudson's boyfriend. Tumbwe was engaged to someone else when he violently raped Miss Hudson.Carolyn Hudson had a prospective business relationship with  Tumbwe.

Media Statement - Carolyn Hudson was in a sexual relationship with or was a sexual partner of  Nathaniel Tumbwe.

Truth - Carolyn Hudson was not in a sexual relationship with Nathaniel nor was she one of his sex partners. Carolyn Hudson was in a prospective business relationship with Tumbwe, a fellow minister of her church. Miss Hudson had been celibate for many years when she was raped.

PH Press Release Statement - "Upon learning of the allegations, The Potter's House launched its own internal investigation".

??? - Leadership was initially notified of the assault by Minister Hudson. Leadership never notified Minister Hudson or initiated a meeting or conversation with Minister Hudson concerning the assault on her by Tumbwe, a fellow minister.

PH Press Statement - None of the purported actions occurred on our campus or in the execution of church duties. The alleged actions reflect the personal choices made outside our scope of influence.

True - However Carolyn Hudson met Tumbwe at a business networking function at the Potters House sponsored by a ministry of the Potters House. Tumbwe had a booth and was promoting his ministry. Min. Hudson conversed with Nathaniel Tumbwe for business networking.  Licensed ministers and elders of the Potters House are allowed to have ministries outside the realm of the church.

Media Statements - Nathaniel Tumbwe and Carolyn Hudson are elders (co-elders at the Potters House and
PH Press Statement - "Neither of the parties involved in the trial was ordained by this ministry."

True - Carolyn Hudson is not an ordained elder at the Potters House. Carolyn J. Hudson is a current card holding licensed minister licensed by the Potter's House after transferring papers to the Potter's House. Carolyn has been a licensed minister of the Potter's House for several years and has recently been accepted to the eldership class.

Final Note - Nathaniel Tumbwe had a few ministry events that several seasoned ministers and elders from the Potters House attended and some supported. Upon public release of the assualt one former Potter's House member called Miss Hudson during trial and three current members approached her the Sunday after the trial ended. All four women had the same statement of Tumbwe's advances which they refused as well. I wonder how many women in the Potter's House and outside the Potters House were taken in by Tumbwe and now face health challenges.

Now that The Potter's House knows who and what Nathaniel Tumbwe is, what steps have they done to reach out to other victims of this predator? Have they used their significant resources in the search and rescue of other Tumbwe victims if they exist--which most likely they do? I hope so. The church is to be held to a higher standard in this regard. They must do everything they can to heal the wounded and protect their flock. Because of your strength and bravery, the members of The Potter’s House community are safer with Tumbwe in jail where he belongs. God bless you for your tremendous courage.
